• You go to a place where is stone in the ground and search for stones. You do it sometimes and finally you get a stone. Then, to be able to craft a knife (stoneknife) it supposed that you have to be again on a stone ground to somehow “file” the stone into a knife. But, if you go to your inventory and to right click into the stone and then select “craft stone knife” you can craft it wherever you like, on grass, water, street, inside a house, etc.

• Note: the option to craft stone by the left click option (where the message “craft stone knife” appears in the middle of your screen) works perfect and you can only craft a stone knife by this method if you are on a stone ground.
