Dying after a period of uncurable sickness
Need More Info, NormalPublic

Description

After drinking water from the bottle/canteen/canister being stored for some time in a tent, sometimes you get the "sick" status, and inevitably die after a period of time. Charchoal doesn't help, vomiting makes the "sick" status dissapear, but you still feel thirsty all the time. Can't find the solution to the problem, only death helps.

Hello tanker227.
When filling water bottles from ponds, it is possible to carry the cholera bacteria in the bottle. If your character is not healthy enough, drinking from such bottle will infect the character with cholera and it will become sick. The character then has to go through all the stages of the sickness - charcoal tabs do not cure the sickness but only speed up the sickness progress. If you provide us with the link to your Steam profile and the server ip we can check the dead character in the DB and its inventory to make sure there has been cholera in one of your waterbottles (if the character had the waterbottle in inventory when it has died).
Regards,
Geez

Unfortunately, before dying I put all the things out of my inventory and into the barrel not to let them dissapear.

But, as far as I know, water in this canteen/bottle was not from the pond, but from the well.

I clearly remember, that when I died here for the first time - I was diying from the same uncurable sickness and pressed "restart" and my inventory was still with me. Maybe you can check there.

Thank you tanker227.
The previous character has died from cholera according to the database. Also, the current character you have alive on the same server now has a canteen that has cholera in it as well. If you are certain you did not fill the bottles/canteens with pond water (or from another bottle/canteen that has been filled with pond water), then we will investigate if there is an issue with the well filling.

Geez

Hello again tanker227.
We have tested several wells and unfortunately we were unable to reproduce the issue - well water never got contaminated with the bacteria. Can you try to find water purification tablets ( http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Water_Purification_Tablets ), use them on the contaminated canteen that your character has, then use well water in it only and let us know in case your character still got sick somehow?

Geez

Last time I used this canteen I didn't get sick and everything was normal, so I'm not sure it'll help, but ok, I'll try. And, btw, water which is in it now was taken from the well in Polyana.

Thank you.
We will check the well in Polana as well. Also " Last time I used this canteen I didn't get sick and everything was normal, " the chance to get cholera depends on the healthiness of the character - if the character is healthy, the chance to get cholera from the pond water or water containers filled with pond water is very low, however if the character is low on blood / hurt the chance is pretty high.

Geez

I used purification tablets, drank the whole canteen and everything was allright. Now I fiiled it with water from the well in Staroe. Is everything allright? Does it still contain cholera bacteria?

Geez added a comment.Feb 7 2017, 9:27 AM

Hello tanker227.
The canteen does not contain cholera bacteria any more, however it does contain salmonella now (If character is sick with salmonella and drinks from a bottle, the bacteria will get into the bottle as well). Therefore there is still a chance that drinking from this canteen will make your character sick. Also the water bottle in your inventory contains both cholera and salmonella.

Geez

The canteen was filled from the well and hasn't been used since that very moment. Is it possible for cholera or salmonella to be caught from the well?

Geez added a comment.Feb 7 2017, 1:32 PM

Hello tanker227.
It should not be possible to get cholera when filling bottles with well water. So you have filled the canteen, purified the water and did not drink from the bottle since? As i have mentioned above, if your character has salmonella/cholera and you drink from a clean bottle, the sickness will get transferred into the bottle.

Geez

I filled the canteen with water, purified it, drank the whole canteen, so it was empty and then filled it again from the well. Can empty vessels carry salmonella (or cholera) too?

And btw, is salmonella followed by sick status? Cause a didn't have it. And no one drank from the canteen except myself. So the only possible way for it to be infected by salmonella are 1)It came from the well or 2) I drank the whole canteen while having salmonella(but without "sick" status) and it became contageous?

Hello tanker227.
Empty bottle can indeed carry salmonella as well, as the sicknesses are tied to the water containers, rather than the water in them. It should also be possible to get rid off the bacteria by spraying desinfectant on the container (bottle/canteen). Also, the salmonella should be followed by sick status, however, if your character previously had salmonella it can carry the sickness but it will be imune to it. Either way, we will test the filling/drinking again to be sure there are no issues. Please try to use the disinfectant on your empty water containers, purify pond water with tabs every time, make sure your character stays healthy and let us know if there are any issues with the sicknesses still.

Geez
