I can confirm this bug with barrels. Just take a barrel into hands and throw it, it will disappear into the ground.

I also threw a frying pan but that didn't "fall through" the ground. It may just be certain items that disappear when you throw it.

Can confirm. A friend and I just recently lost weapons throwing them at the ground. I watched as it clipped straight through the level plane and disappear.
