Description

In the situation where the player is group leader, and has an AT weapon equipped AI under his command. They are overlooking an unsuspected enemy armoured target and some nearby infantry. The players group is in stealth mode and is holding fire. The player tells the AT AI to target the armoured target, then waits. The AT AI reports "Ready to fire" (or equivalent phrase).

OBS:
When the order to open fire is given, the AT AI will instantly fire the weapon in his hands at a target suitable for that weapon.
If the AI has rifle in hands at that moment, he will fire the rifle on the infantry. This typically leads to the detection of the players group by the armoured vehicle, then death.

EXP:
When the order to open fire is given, the AT AI should attack the target he has been ordered to attack. If required, he will switch weapons to one appropriate for the assigned target.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Unzip attached repro mission, open in mission editor.
  2. Preview mission.
  3. Observe enemy AA target ZSU-39 and infantry approx 300m in front of you. Your player unit or subordinates should announce the known targets.
  4. Order AT solider (unit 4) to target the ZSU-39.
  5. For good firing position, move toward the enemies, to approx 250m. Go prone for improved stability.
  6. Open command view (keypad ./Del button). Observe unit 4. Note he may report "Ready to fire", while holding his rifle.
  7. When unit 4 is holding his rifle, order your group to open fire.
  8. Observe unit 4 fire his rifle at unassigned infantry targets.
  9. Observe enemy AA target kill your entire group.
Additional Information

Tested in dev build 1.65.138136 and stable build 1.62.137494.

This issue seems to be a regression in AI behaviour. AT AI have been able to attack their assigned target with appropriate weapon in the past!
