Putting away hotbar item causes existing inventory item to be unexpectedly removed

Description

When using the hot-bar to put away an item if your backpack is full (but you have space elsewhere) the hotbar item will remove an existing inventory item to make free space. (While navigating a long distance I lost a very rare "Long Horn" pistol this way)

Suggestion:
Either search the complete inventory for a free slot
or
Have an in game warning that an item was dropped.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Wear UK Assault Vest & Improvised Courier Bag
  2. Fill all slots in Backpack
  3. Have an item that takes up more than one slot in the first slot of the backpack (example: Pistol)
  4. Put a compass in the UK Assault Vest
  5. In the hotbar assign the compass
  6. Using the hotbar activate the compass
  7. Using the hotbar put away the compass

Result: Multi-slot item (such as a Pistol or PET Bottle) will fall out.
