DayZ Won't Start
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I've had DayZ for years, played it regularly for a long time, but took a break for a while. Now I'm trying to play again, but the game won't start. The Battleye window pops up and goes away as usual, Steam says the game is running for several seconds, then says syncing, then nothing. I've check the Troubleshooting section of the Steam Discussions Forum and tried everything listed there and the game still doesn't run. Also I don't seem to have a C:\Users\(Username)\Appdata folder

Did you delete the whole battleye and folder?

Start there, redo the game if you have to after but try the battleye first.

You have played in .60 correct? otherwise post your video card info.

Hello hpyndlby.
Can you try deleting the BattlEye folders in your game directory and in Common Files folder on your computer, verifying the game cache in Steam and let me know if the issue still persists?
Regards,
Geez

I've deleted the Battleye folder, I've verified the integrity of the game cache, I've deleted the game and reinstalled and it still doesn't work. I have not played .60 last version I played was .59. My video card is a GeForce GTX 950.

Make sure you have nothing in your steam startup properties from the old UI to the new UI stuff.

Especially if the old shortcut was not deleted.

The entire game has been reinstalled, there's nothing in the launch options. And just one additional note, other games that use Battleye are still working fine, such as Arma 3. This is strictly a DayZ issue.

Hello again.
Have you tried to run the game only as stable, or did you also try experimental? If not, can you try if it makes any difference? Also can you try deleting C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ folder and let me know what happens then? Another thing I would suggest is trying to run Dayz as administrator.

Geez

Trying to change to experimental only made it say [experimental] beside 'DayZ' in my steam library after it failed to launch. Deleted the DayZ folder and tried running as administrator, now I get an error message saying 'The program can't start because MSVCP120.dll is missing from your computer.' Funny since I just reinstalled the game :/

I tried searching on google and found/downloaded the file, but A) The file IS there in C:\Windows\System32\ and B) It won't even let me copy/replace the file because it says it's already open in another program, even when I exit every open program.

Hello hpyndlby.
Can you try any of these suggested fixes http://www.pcerror-fix.com/how-to-fix-msvcp120-dll-missing-error and let me know?
Regards,
Geez

I finally found a fix. Downloaded a 32 bit version of vcredist from here http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/E/6/2E61CFA4-993B-4DD4-91DA-3737CD5CD6E3/vcredist_x86.exe JUST the 32 bit version. And now DayZ is FINALLY working again. Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

Glad to hear that the issue has been resolved.
In that case I am going to close the ticket, but feel free to submit another one in case you come across more issues.
