I didn't play Dayz in a long time and have still a character from that time.
Now when I try to join a server, I get to the loading screen ("Joining Server") and then get thrown back to the server list without any message.
If I try again I sometimes get the "Connection failed" message.
I'd really like to play Dayz again, so thanks for your help!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. If you send me a link to your Steam profile, I'll check and see if the problem is related to character data for example. Example: "http://steamcommunity.com/id/xxxxxxxxxx/"

Thanks for sending in your info. Nothing seems to be out of order in the character database, but do you by any chance have the option of logging on with your Steam account on a different pc and different connection and see if you experience the same problem?

No i don't. Just tried this week, but didn't work out.
Today i reinstalled the game and everything worked perfectly.
I probably deleted, changed or added some files, when I fooled around with Dayz Mod.
