Massive freezes and stutters
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

{F37870}Hello I'm coming from Reddit (( https://m.reddit.com/r/arma/comments/4sfdvy/anyone_else_getting_massive_frame_dips_25_fps/?utm_source=mweb_redirect&compact=true )) and I've been getting this problem as well. It makes the game almost unplayable. I've had this problem since you added the new lighting and it's even more apparent on Tanoa. When I'm walking around I'll occasionally have my game freeze for a second or two, but when I'm in contact, every time someone shoots (especially people at about 50-100 meters) my game will freeze-sometimes up to minutes. The only solution in that case is to tab out and back in or restart. Super annoying.

None of the people I play with are experiencing this so I can't trouble shoot it on my own.

Please fix this.

Get into contact, maybe you'll freeze. Walk through Altis or Tanoa and see if you have stutters and freezes.

Hello,

thank you for the feedback. Could you please prepare the Arma 3 Troubleshooting report (Launcher > Options) and upload those files here? Should you encounter trouble uploading the files here, please upload them to some free file sharing service (e.g. Dropbox) and post the link.

Thanks

Thank you,

Hello again :)

So a plan to deal with this is in the progress, there's something I need you to do so we can progress further.

If you won't mind, please, go through these steps

  • Switch to latest Arma 3 "profiling branch" - Steam Branches
  • Go into "Arma 3" directory in Steam and rename "arma3profiling.exe" to "arma3.exe" (Launcher and BattlEye are expecting that one).
  • Launch game and start playing.
  • Press together {L SHIFT} + {NUM -} (NUM Minus) and release them - Help
  • Then just type "frame" (as with any other cheat mentioned in the Help)
  • Should a dialogue stating it was successful appear, select "COPY ALL" (third button at the bottom row).
  • Data should be copied to clip board so paste them (CTRL+V) anywhere you want (e.g. create a new txt file on desktop and paste the info there)

Once you have that file, please upload it here (or, if you encounter any trouble with that, to some free file sharing service and post the link here).

Thank you very much :)

Sorry, I will be away from my PC for another week. I will do those steps as soon as possible however! I hope this won't be a problem.

https://www.mediafire.com/?mwn2ss8def0uicc There's the thing you asked for. Sorry it took me so long!

I've also noticed that it comes from sounds mainly. For example, if an autocannon in the distance is firing it will cause my game to hang and stutter. If a tank gets hit with an ATGM, my game can freeze for up to five minutes. :(

Back by the way.

My 2 other friends and I all get this bug almost once every hour. Usually play Exile which can get ram usage over 2950mb pretty fast(causes the problem). Fps drops to 5-2 and textures turn to low poly vomit. This pretty much makes the game unplayable since we have to spend 20 minutes out of an hour having to deal with one teammate rejoin a full server. From my 4700 hours played on ARMA 3 this is easily the worst problem I have had.

Dude that's exactly right. The low poly thing happened to me at my last Arma session on Saturday. I ended up having to force quit.

I too suffer from this problem since the Apex release. Almost everyone in the community also gets this problem. We have named it the 2FPS glitch. Around once an hour, frames drop to 2fps, buildings vanish, terrain goes all blurry, player model goes low poly, and sometimes even drops its texture and becomes white.

I play on an Invade and Annex server.

Hello, thank you for the file.

Unfortunately it still might not be the info we are looking for, when I was first posting the tutorial I did not know it was missing a vital part, the frame has to be captured when your FPS are low. So if you made the frame capture when your FPS were normal I will need you to perform it one more time. So sorry about that :(

Now, @rassadgmailcom and @ImranZakhaev, if you already haven't done so already, please create your own tickets for the issue you are experiencing and try to follow the tutorial I provided LowerBigfoot with (and also please make sure to perform the frame capture once your FPS are low).

Thank you all

Here it is. I went into Eden on Tanoa and placed down about an understrength platoon of NATO (Pacific) soldiers and equivalent numbers of CSAT (Pacific). I gave each side two of their respective IFVs and one APC. The frame drops and stutters are just unacceptable.

Hello,

thank you for the feedback you have provided in this matter.

As progress in this case is moving forward, we are trying to pinpoint the cause, which unfortunately means yet another intel gathering.

A new profiling was published, rev. 137737, that will help us get more precise info about the issue.

Almost all of the performed steps are still the same, almost every of them only two things change:

  • needs to be the latest profiling branch rev. 137737
  • this time include also the rpt file from the session

Once you have those, ZIP them and attach them here again. One frame will do, more of them are very welcome (please make sure to have corresponding rpt as well).

Thank you

Before I do that, I'd like to show you this. I tried playing at Folk ARPS for today. My performance on Tanoa was horrible, maybe 5-10 FPS with stutters galore. After about 2 minutes I was kicked off the game for a failed signature check. I'll get onto your thing soon.

Alright. I ran the game on the main branch as a control, and the stutters and crap was there, but in the editor (Just with two simple squads facing off) it felt like my mouse was moving through butter or something. My input was slow and it felt unresponsive and stuttery. This is ridiculous.

Consistently on start up of the game, in between the 3 splash screens and the main menu I get a pitch black screen that lasts from 90-120 seconds. This happens every time I start up since I've been switching back and forth between main and profiling.

In testing with the profiling it was much the same.

Also I just want to say thanks for sticking with me on this issue.

I should rather thank you for the feedback and willingness to stick with these reports :)

Did you get the info you needed?

I got the files and forwarded them, they are being processed, I do not have much more info about it at the moment

Alright. I look forward to any help!
