Hello,

have you already verified your game cache with Steam? Sometimes a corrupt file may cause trouble like that.

If the problem still occurs after that, please upload your crashdump files in your ticket.

In the pop up window you have the option to create a zip file with all the crashdump files.

You even can find one of these files (*.rpt) at c:/users/username/AppData/local/Arma3

Best regards

Hi, thanks for your assistance.

I just verified Arma 3 in Steam, unfortunately it did not find a single file to update (0 bytes out of 0 bytes).

I don't have a single RPT file anywhere on my hard drives, I selected 'show hidden files' and 'show system files', but still nothing.
This may be because the Editor does not crash of it's own volition, it merely freezes (with no HD light activity) and the crash is caused by my use of Taskmanager to close it.

I saw that the error report contained the phrase "DX", so I also tried the -winxp switch to see if that helped, but it didn't.

My A3 version is 1.62.137126 (sneak preview version installed yesterday in place of the standard non-beta version).

I can't really think of anything unusual about my computer setup.

Also, when I try to connect to a server running Exile Tanoa mod, the server browser lists Apex with a red circle implying that it is not installed. Steam lists it as installed.

Koala added a comment.Jun 24 2016, 2:12 PM

I would recommend you to download the development branch of Arma 3 because most of the server are using the dev branch and not the sneak peak version. In the development branch you will also have the Apex content and you have newer features (e.g. overhauled revive system).

After the download of the development branch has finished, verify the integrity of your game cache and defrag your gaming hdd or optimize your gaming ssd.

Start the game without any modifications (even without the Exile mod package) and try to reproduce that freezing in Eden again.

Most of the time only a small freeze will occur if you place the first unit on the map. Give it some time.

That's amazing ! Thanks !

If we should use the Dev build to play Tanoa in the Editor, what purpose does the Sneak Preview build serve ?

However, the Dev build seems to be problematic with my minimum spec PC. The FPS on the standard build was fine, 30 - 40fps. But on the Dev build I am getting 6fps in the Campaigns, and 2fps in the editor on Tanoa, and the audio is cutting in and out constantly.
Everything was pretty much already set to minimum, or OFF (for AA and PIP etc), so there is nothing I can do to decrease the overhead on my system.

Although Process Explorer says Arma 3 was only using 18.9% of the GPU and 36% of the CPU, so I don't really know what the issue is ?
Standard build was great, the Dev build is not playable for me.

malau added a comment.Jun 25 2016, 3:52 PM

I switched back to 'Sneak Preview" build (why is it that Dev build has "Apex" on the splash screen, but 'Sneak Peak' doesn't ?) because Dev build is too much for my PC to handle. However 'Sneak Preview' will not play Campaign missions. I reverted the East Campaign, the Death Valley mission, and the loading bar froze around 3/4 of the way. I left it 5 mins, but nothing happened, so I Taskmanaged it.

Other people have told me to avoid the Dev build, because it's purpose is for BIS coders to test new stuff out without optimizing the code as thoroughly as they do for the stable branch. However, Sneak Peak is not much use if I can't play Campaigns.
So I guess I will have to go back to Stable Branch.

OK, Stable branch is ****ed up too now. It will not play Campaigns, or Showcases or anything at all. They all just freeze during the loading bar.

This is really messed up BIS ! It is bad news if switching between the builds does this now. I will have to delete all local content and leave it overnight to download - this is hoping that 'delete local content' does not remove all of my @folder mods too ?

Otherwise I will have to manually delete Arma 3 and then use the verify option to make sure I keep all my gigabytes of mods.

Is this thread closed ? I'm just typing to myself ? Not meant sarcastically, I just don't know.

Hello,

the guys of BIS have their two days off (weekend).

It is right that the development branch is not finally optimized and one may experience performance impacts and other issues.

I for myself only have some performance issues with the development branch but that's because I am using an old GTX 580 with a moderate i7 3770k. I didn't have any problems with changing between the builds of Arma 3 (stable, release candidate, development branch).

There seems to be something wrong at your end if you have such huge problems with the game.

What are your specs?

Have you deactivated all your modifications or have you still used your mod package and experienced these freezes?

Hello @malau

thanks for the feedback.

As @Koala suggested crashdumps or RPT files might help us to find out what's wrong. I know you have looked for these already, however it is still worth a shot.

First of all please try to reproduce the freeze/crash again only this time, do not kill the application via the Task Manager. Let it be like that for a minute or two, hopefully game will have enough time to crash "properly" and generate the crashdump files.

Should the game crash with an error message, once the error window appears select Show Details and Prepare Report, once the files are ready, you will have option to Save Report enabled, please use it and save the ZIP file with the report somewhere where you can access it and upload it here.

If game does not crash after some time while freezed, kill it and use these step to export logs from ARMA 3 Launcher:

  1. Start ARMA 3 Launcher
  2. Click Options menu
  3. Drop down menu will appear
  4. Select: Prepare Arma Troubleshooting error and save those files
  5. A notification will pop up with the name of the generated file

Please note that it might take some time for files to collect.

Once you have any of these files, Zip them up (if they aren't already) and upload them to this ticket. If you are not able to do so, upload them to some free file sharing service (e.g. Dropbox) and post the link here.

Should none of this work, please let me know and we will figure out something else.

Thank you

Hi, thanks for replying. I didn't realize you were all employees of BIS, I thought you were all volunteers helping BIS, so the weekend thing makes sense :-)

I just checked my appdata/local/arma3 for *.rpt - nothing there. I have left it loading for over 5 mins before Alt F4ing it.

Last night I deleted all local content and redownloaded Arma 3 again. I started the campaign from the 1st mission after the prologue, and it loaded ok. But the performance was horrendous. In 3rd person, my avatar was missing alot of his textures, and I only had 6fps.

I wonder if there has been a new Stable Branch version since I last played and got 30-40fps ? Something has definitely changed for me to get such bad performance.

My specs should be listed in the original report ? I have a minimum spec PC.

Quad 4 Q8300 2.5Ghz
4gb RAM
Radeon HD4650 1Gb (DX10.1 maximum, though I prefer to run it with -winxp)
Standard (non-SSD Hard disk)
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

I run Arma 3 with everything turned OFF or LOW, except textures which are VERY HIGH (else the trees are lollipops)
View distance and Obj Distance to 500 also.

Process Explorer says my CPU use is between 35 and 40%, and my GPU use varies between 18% and 26%. So the game is hardly taxing my CPU and GPU. Maybe this new build, if there was one, was optimized to i3/i5/i7 motherboards rather than Quad 4 motherboards ?

I really thought deleting everything and reinstalling it would solve this. I'm at a loss now.

A colleague of yours, Dominik Flandera (or that may be yourself ?) sent me an email and asked me to send my DXDIAG.txt to him.
I just did so now.

Not me, but it is surely good that you've sent him those :)

Did you update your graphic drivers recently? What parameters are you using to run the game? Are you using the -malloc param (changes the memory allocator) and if so, did you try to use the default one (disable the -malloc param or use -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi)?

malau added a comment.Jun 27 2016, 2:31 PM

I just have -nosplash -nopause -winxp (it's no difference with or without -winxp)

Radeon stopped updating graphics drivers for the 4 series around 3 years ago. I just ran their AutoDetect utility, and it says I have the 'latest' version.

It turns out that request from Dominik Flandera was not related to this case. It was about Dayz not working with DirectX10.1 any more.
