Rendering resolution double the normal values, impossible to change
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In current stable version (0.60 ) it's impossible to change rendering resolution below 200% of display resolution. Option to change rendering resolution in game is unavailable (set to 100% visually while the game actually renders 200%). Changing the rendering resolution in cfg files (DayZ.cfg) has no impact on the resolution in game (only proof to back that up is that the framerate is the same and that no matter what the rendering resolution is set to in files it still looks EXACTLY the same in game, even very low resolutions that should be visibly upscaled look the same). So in conclusion changing the rendering resolution in game is not possible and changing it in file has no effect (even with file set to read only after that). Game always starts at 3840x2160 rendering resolution (NOT displayed resolution) and it has a very bad impact on frames rendered per second. Deleting the cfg files also has no impact on that.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Use current cfg files or delete them and start the game for it to generate new ones.
  2. Close the game.
  3. Open cfg file, rendering resolution will be set to double that of displayed resolution.
  4. Change the rendering resolution to 1920*1080 or any other of choice.
  5. Save the file and set it to read only.
  6. Launch the game, performance and visuals will prove that game is still being rendered at 200% (3840*2160)
Additional Information

Big impact on the number of frames per second (in comparison to older version of 0.60) strongly suggests that it isn't only problem with wrong resolution displayed in cfg files or in game. Game is beimng rendered in 3840x2160 no matter what I do to prevent it. I set the severity to major because the impact on frames per second is HUGE and there is no current workaround for users.

Hello borsuk3344 and thank you for the report.
This is a known issue and it has been scheduled for a fix.

Geez

Hello, will this be fixed as a hotfix or will we have to wait until 0.61?

-All you can change the resolution in the CFG then change the file to read only that will lock the file and Dayz will not be able to change it back t the 4k scheme

tmsazo chaning the rendering resolution in file while keeping the same display resolution doesn't work. Test it yourself or read this bug report again

borsuk-

-With my CFG set to read only the render stays at the following:

Render_W=1920;
Render_H=1080;

If I remove the read only flag and load dayz then exit the rendering changes to:

Render_W=3840;
Render_H=2160;

I understand that you are stating that in the GUI you can't change it but if you change it in the CFG set it to read only then load Dayz the rendering will be at 100% instead of 200% at least it does for me.

If you change it in the CFG then load dayz it changes it back to the higher res that is why there is no change.

If you set the file to read only and load dayz it can't over write the file and leaves it at 1920x1080

tmasazo Please read my bug report again. Pretty please. In there I state, that the game starts in the same rendering resolution no matter what you put in the config. Setting it to read only prevents the game from overwriting the config but doesn't force it to render in the rendering resolution that you put there before setting it to read only and starting the game. I understand that you can feel that I'm an idiot but I'm not. I tested it thrughly before writing this bug report and Geezes first answer was to do what you suggest but he deleted it and changed the bug to confirmed. If you want proof set the display resolution in the config to 1920x1080 and rendering resolution to half of that. You will see that it doesn't force the game to render in lower res and then upscale. The game starts and works in the same resolutiomn no matter what you put in the config before setting it to read only

tmsazo and please look into the "steps to reproduce" part of this report.

I just deleted my dayz folder and had the game make a new one with the integrity check. My file is not read only and never changes to 200%.. Been like that since experimental. I also deleted my launch parameters

Hello Borsuk3344.
The rendering resolution slider (and the ability to change the rendering resolution) has been removed from the game due to beig obsolete and not compatible with the current system in place (rendering resolution is now set to 100% by default and cannot be changed). Also, the Render_W and Render_H values do not reflect actual rendering resolution in the game and will be removed from the config file in the future due to being obsolete as well.

Geez
