It has happened to me when opening the game and going into the main menu. It also has happened to me after I have left a server. It 'seems' to happen when I perform some sort of action in the menu. The first occurrence I exited a server and pressed escape. The very second I pressed escape it played an ear-shattering ding/ping/bell like sound. It did this two more times as I pressed escape to exit the game fully. The second occurrence was just after the message describing the alpha state of the game.

Cannot reproduce as it seems to happen randomly as far as I can tell. Will report back if it becomes more conclusive.
I believe issues 0026561 and 0026865 are reporting the same issue. In one of these issues someone believes it to be related to the aug they have and switching it out fixed it for them. I did not have an aug.
Can report this has happened to other people I know as well.
EDIT: Since it is probably relevant my audio drivers are NVIDIA High Definition Audio version 1.3.33.0
Event Timeline
Happened again today, logged out of server prone on top of a building with a fire axe in my hands. Upon exiting server there was one instance of the extremely loud 'ping' when I hit Esc.

This happens to me when my character is posing behind the main menu holding a small protector case in his hands. My audio device is the VIA VT1708S chipset built into my Asus M4A78LT-M motherboard with the latest AMD-supplied drivers.
for the record this is still happening and continues to scare the ever loving shite out of me on a regular basis. I may go deaf.
