It is not possible to prepare sardines caught with a improvised fish trap.
No possibility to make filets of sardines or make it eatable in any other way.
Heating them in a pan or pot does not change anything. You will get sick when eaten raw sardines.

Hello spence and thank you for the report.
Sardines cannot be prepared (with knife or sharp tool) by design, as they can be consumed without having to fillet them. However, currently there is a bug which results in players being unable to cook the sardines.
