Description

Any items being carried in hands will either return to inventory spot or drop if there are no inventory spots available when the Free Look key is used. This happens 100% of the time when I use the Free Look function.

Did you bind your "free look" to the H key by any chance?

Yes. I have bound Free Look to H key.

Since the last patch, H key is bound to "drop item" by default and cannot be unbound currently. It is an issue we are aware of (#0025585) and it has been scheduled for a fix. Using other key than H until the option to unbind it is added should fix the issue.
