I have tried it yesterday with my friend. When I take a pistol (1911) from my inventory, I am running significantly slower with it in my hands than my friend with MP5 in his hands. We have tried it the opposite as well and it worked the same for him.
We have not tested it with other weapons.
Get a friend, let him take a pistol in his hands, take MP5 in your hands - the MP5 guy will be allways running faster.
The character also does the old running animation when running with a one handed weapon

We are aware of this situation and it is caused by the fps difference between clients, weapons do not affect its behaviour. Currently this cannot be fixed, however it will be fixed in future stages of development.
