I dig a plot ok, I dig a tile ok, but when I put pumpkin or tomato seeds in my hands I don't have the option to plant. I have found several packs of seeds but they all have no quantity shown, perhaps they were empty packs discarded by other players but I don't think so as I found them in garden sheds and barns.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated, unfortunately I have to look again for seeds as I threw them away when they did not work. Before 0.56 I planted seeds several times but never had to open a pack, is this new to 0.56?

yes, its new in .56. you have to open the "pack" of seeds first. confused me like you.

We have tested this thoroughly but unfortunately we were unable to reproduce the issue you have described. As the commenter above mentioned, currently it is required to open the packs before planting.
