when you have an item in your hand, for example a weapon, and you press eat / drink on an item around you, that item isn't put into the hands (also the previous weapon is put away) and you need to aim and click at it again to start eating / drinking.

We have tested this thoroughly but unfortunately we were unable to reproduce the issue you have described. However there have been some tweaks done which most likely have fixed the issue. Please retest this once next patch hits Steam and report back to us in case the issue re-appears on there.
