In 0.54 it was possible to get seed from vegetables by using all kind of blades (Stonekinfe, all kind of knife, Axe).
In 0.55 it is not possible to get seeds from vegetables because you can not use a knife or other blades with them.

Grow Paprika, Tomato, Pumpkin and try to get seeds from them.
Additional Information
To my opinion it makes sense to get seeds from vegetables and reuse them for growing new vegetables.
