Since I updated today every time I try to start DayZ I get "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\DayZ.exe" underneath it it says: "the application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect." When I hit ok it opens a cmd window titled "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\DayZ_BE.exe" and in the window "failed to launch game. {F31278}

Could be a Microsoft Visual C++ problem. You might want to try reinstalling that.

I think that page might be outdated, i just checked my installed software and saw i had all the Microsoft Visual C++ stuff installed all the way up to 2013 (12.0.30501 to be more precise).
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 looks like the latest one.

Update: By process of elimination figured out that Razer Synapse was causing the problem. This info also helped another out on reddit.
