DayZ.exe Application Error Crash to Desktop
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Since 0.54 patch on stable, my game is crashing roughly every 20-30 minutes. I sometimes receive a Low Memory warning in Windows, proceeded by a DayZ.exe application error. Sometimes it crashes to desktop with no error. Has occurred twice in Zelenogorsk, once at the NW Airfield, and twice in Cherno. {F31099} {F31100}

Had a similar problem, but I'm not sure mine was related to memory issues. DXDiag and crash dump files can be had here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qt82xagc0yiustp/DayZ.zip?dl=0

File was too big to attach locally.

Having same problem. Windows 7 x64, Stable 0.54. Crashes with illegal instruction nearly every 10 minutes.

Same issue here since 0.54 update. Removed launch parameters. Verified game files. Game crash roughly every 30 minutes. initially with memory error, now only dayz.exe application error. Occurred in new V3S cargo with a passenger in front and killed my character while driving. Also occurs in random locations throughout map in cities and forest. Windows 8.1 x64, AMD FX-8350, 990fx board, 16GB ram, R9 280x.

Hello Carkus and thank you for the report.
Are you using any launch parameters by any chance? If so, please disable them as they are not supported and seem to cause various issues within the game.
If you are not using any launch parameters or the issue still persists, run the game with -dologs parameter and attach contents of C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\DayZ to this ticket once the crash reappears.
Regards,
Geez

Geez, if you read the additional information field you'll see that I have already tried removing the launch parameters. I removed them before I even started playing the game. I have already attached the DayZ.RPT file to the issue, and have added some rar archives for the other files. it's too large to attach as one file.

I had the same issue, also removing starting parameters and resetting the folders in %HOME/.../DayZ (wiping config) did not help.

However I did notice using the Sysinternals Process Explorer, that directly after starting DayZ, the systems memory "Commit" increases by 7.0 GB to 7.5 GB. That increases my total commit size from around 2.0 GB (after system startup) to more than 9.0 GB.

Whats the "commit" value in Process Explorer? See
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6598097/process-explorer-what-does-the-commit-history-graph-show

The value has a history graph in yellow, just hover the cursor above the graph.

My system has 8 GB of RAM and I had a swapfile of 1.0 GB in total. After increasing it to a - non-reasonable value - of 8 GB, DayZ does not crash anymore.

I believe it's a bug that DayZ, which is still a 32 Bit application, can somehow gather more than 4 GB of Ram from the system.

To circumvent, just temporarily increase your systems swap file so that you have at least 9 or 10 GB of (virtual) RAM.

(I'll double post @ 0021926)

I have way more ram than that (16GB) with a swap of 16GB as well. I still have crashing.

I don't even have a swap (paging file) I disabled it a while back because my system was taking forever to shutdown.

My system has 12gb of RAM. I've noticed that DayZ had been using up to about 5gb of memory.

OK, so if having at least 4 GB of page file does not suffice, I am really curious what the process explorer is reporting as a "commit size" after starting dayz for you guys with > 8GB of RAM? And, how that changes if (re)enabling at least 4 GB of pagefile?

I've started using the -malloc=system command line option and it's made it heaps better. I didn't have any crashes in over an hours worth of gaming, which involved heaps of truck driving and looting some of the bigger towns. I did notice that it started pausing and freezing slightly towards the end of the session but that used to happen to me a few patches back too after longer periods of playing.
