Myself and multiple players on my server have all experienced this problem, it can be when the server restart or just when you connect to a server.
You end up respawning as a fresh start, no gear, new location.
This really does need to be looked into as it does put players off.

There does not seem to be any additonalinfo but I suspect that it might have something to do with the connection to the servers the remember what you have.
I have found that sometimes you can press escape then exit as soon as respawning comes up and it occasionally brings your old character back.
Maybe connecting to the game before your equipment list is collected from the server?
This started occurring after .50 update I believe
This has started to happen frequently to me after 0.52 aka Xmass update - before I had this issue as well but exiting the server as soon as I saw the shore and no gear and then logging in on another server always fixed the issue - this time it sometimes works sometimes not - but in 4 consecutive games (4 days in a row)I had this problem three times and once I was able to save my character (that did not have much more than chicken feathers anyway) and twice I lost my character. I stopped caring about how much gear I gathered as I always loose it that way (some bug e.g. trampoline rocks) but this issue is really serious - If you can't trust your gear will be there next time you log in, then what is the point of playing? You won't even test the game mechanics as you will have to start all over again instead of trying new things added (e.g. ghillie suit, trucks, new weapons).
Are you guys playing on public servers? Bare in mind that each private shard has its own individual characters. Public servers also have different characters for 1st person only servers & normal servers.
Not had this issue personally, despite regularly getting the 'Waiting for host' message and being online when the server I play on resets.
If this is an actual issue, however, it's probably an issue with caching your player to the hive, like you suggested. That's more of an optimization thing (getting it up there absolutely asap). Don't imagine much can be done other than being a bit more patient with relogging.
Yeah it's a public servers with first and 3rd player view enabled, players in our community have reported that the have had the problem on more than one server.
