I's not only the waterproof backpack. I have experienced it with a normal Hunting Backpack, when I accidently started swimming in the lake in Turovo.

The Dev's replied, that they are aware of this bug and are looking how it could be fixed.

Yep he's right I forgot to mention that this was in Turovo lake, I don't know about other locations.

Swimming or drifting out into the ocean a little (or any slightly-deepish water) will unequip items and make them hit the bottom or sand below you. In the NE corner of the map, swim toward the little island or sunken boat, and it will happen at some point. Afterwards, it is hard to re-equip the items most of the time, and sometimes requiring extreme object dragging toward shore first. (since you can't really dive downward)
