Sorry to hear about your trouble. Is your only option to close down the game via the task manager? If so, is DayZ not responding according to the Task Manager?

Hi JStewart,
normally I close the game with ALT + F4. According to the task manager everything is ok and running/responding.
I can add, that I can hear the sound of the different menus if I am using the arrow keys. So the menu is there, it is just invisible because everything is black.

Please attach a dxdiag report and your DayZ.cfg file, and I'll have a look at them. In order to create the dxdiag report please feel free to use the information from the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/run-directx-diagnostic-tool

The DayZ.cfg file is available in your "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\DayZ" folder (rename it as a text file before attaching it to your ticket).

BTW: I use a nVidia 860 GT for DayZ.

That's odd. Have you defined any launch options for DayZ in Steam? In order to check you can do the following:

1. Right click on DayZ in Steam.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the button labeled "Set Launch Options".

In case you have any kind of launch options active, try to delete all of them and see what happens when launching the game.

Alright, try the following steps and see if that solves your problem:

1. Delete your dayz.cfg file (make sure that DayZ is not running).
2. Launch DayZ and enter the Main Menu.
3. Click the button labeled "Configure".
4. Click the button labeled "Video".
5. Click the button labeled "User Interface".
6. Select your resolution from the dropdown menu.
7. Select a proper aspect ratio.
8. Exit to the Main menu and restart the game as prompted.

That's the problem now... I don't see the main menu anymore.

What happens if you start DayZ in windowed mode and then at the Main menu press Enter while holding down the left Alt button?

I just tried ALT +Enter at the main menu but the screen turns black and it says "receiving" ... for more than 2 hours.
Then I closed the game and started it again, went on a sever and could play in the windowed mode. I could change resolution and ratio but I could not get into full screen with ALT + Enter. I tried it with the menu, but then again, the game crashes. Only sound no picture.

If you start up the game in windowed mode, set every graphics option to low or disabled, set a lower rendering resolution and then try to use ALT+Enter to enter fullscreen, what happens then?

I tried it with the settings of the screenshots and had to restart the game to apply the changes. After restarting I pressed ALT + Enter and I came back to the loading screen (left upper corner "Receiving", red bar in the middle, but the bar never finishes completely...)

Do you by any chance have an .rpt file in your "C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\DayZ" folder?
