Happened to me too, but when i relogged i tried again, still didnt work, once i dragged an item into my pants they updated to repaired state.

Correction : Clothing does mend.
It seems to be a problem in updating client with instances of what happens to your gear, ie - items being damaged/ruined.
One has to drop and reaquire them to check the state of the items.
Was attacked repeatedly by zombies and noticed that I suddenly began to cool down, my jacket was pristine, dropped it on the ground, and it was in fact ruined.
