Hello tater116,

Please let us know in the note section if you are still able to reproduce this issue on the latest Development build.

If so, please send us a dxdiag report and files from this folder: "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\"

Pack the files into a .rar file. If the *.rar is smaller than 5.000KB, you can attach it here. In case it's larger than that, please try uploading it to a file sharing website and link it here.

For future reports please refer to the "How to guide" http://feedback.dayzgame.com/how-to-user.html [^]

Thank you,

JStewart

Hey thanks for taking a look at my problem, but im really confused and I don't know if ihave the latest development build and I don't know how to update it if I don't. please help.

As it is now, both experimental and stable branches are running version 0.48. So, if you reproduce the crash now, you can upload the files from the folder mentioned above, and the files will thus be from the latest build.

Hey, um it still doesn't work. when I click play on steam a small box pops up for about 3 seconds saying performing first time setup then it just disappears/crashes. and I really don't understand how to do the whole file uploading thing. Im just really confused and frustrated.

All we just need in order to investigate further is the following.

A dxdiag report: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/run-directx-diagnostic-tool
When running the dxdiag tool, there is a button labeled "Save All Information". Click this button and save your dxdiag report as a text file on your pc. Upload the file here on the feedback tracker.

Files from the following folder on your pc: "C:\Users\<YourWindowsUserName>\AppData\Local\DayZ\"
Copy all these files and pack them into a .rar archive. Upload the .rar file here on the feedback tracker.

well um I really don't want to run a diagnostic on my computer id like for a way I can fix my game crash problem.

Unfortunately, there's not much the devs can do in terms of fixing the root of the crashes unless they can analyze the files from your DayZ folder. In case you do not wish to send in the files for investigation, then you can always try and wait for the next DayZ update and see if the game will run more stable at that point in time.

I was afaid of that. its just I really have no clue what I am doing when it comes to packing stuff into files, uploading them onto here, and running a diagnostic. I just don't know what im doing.

Hi,

Can you try the following?

  • Running Steam as administrator
  • Verifying the game cache of DayZ
  • Manually installing DirectX by running:

<Steam Install Location>\steamapps\common\DayZ\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP.exe

Hi again Kyle,

I have been made aware, that you need a bit of extra help providing the needed files, so I'll try to explain the steps a bit more simple.

In order to get the dxdiag report, please perform the following steps:

  1. Start up your pc and wait until Windows is running.
  2. Press the "R" key on your keyboard while holding down the "Windows" key on your keyboard.
  3. Wait for the small window to pop up.
  4. Type dxdiag.
  5. Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard and wait for the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to launch.
  6. Click the button labeled "Save all information" at the bottom of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
  7. Save the dxdiag.txt file on your pc.
  8. Attach the dxdiag.txt file to this issue by clicking the button labeled "browse" under the section labeled "Upload File".
  9. Select your dxdiag.txt file and click the button labeled "Open".
  10. Click the button labeled "Upload" under the section "Upload File".

In order to package the files from your "C:\Users\<YourWindowsUserName>\AppData\Local\DayZ\", please perform the following steps:

  1. Unless you already have a file archiver; download a file archiver like WinRAR for example (available at http://www.win-rar.com).
  2. Archive the files from your "C:\Users\<YourWindowsUserName>\AppData\Local\DayZ\" folder.

In order to archive the files from your "C:\Users\<YourWindowsUserName>\AppData\Local\DayZ\" folder by using WinRAR, please feel free to use the extensive yet short article available here: http://www.ehow.com/how_4556616_use-winrar.html

  1. Attach the archived files to this issue by clicking the button labeled "browse" under the section labeled "Upload File".
  2. Select your .rar file and click the button labeled "Open".
  3. Click the button labeled "Upload" under the section "Upload File".

Thanks a lot! I will try these new steps and get back to you!
