I am having this issue as well. My friend and I have tried several custom missions and even created a few of our own using the above script as well as other versions of a similar script posted by other users, and each time I try to change my gear nothing happens.

I even strip down to the skivvies and try changing the gear/fatigues and nothing update. Only thing that I can change are the guns and their load out.
