I noticed zombies will always hit you regardless of distance if you are directly above or below them. Vertical range of zombie attack is unlimited.

Steps To Reproduce
Easiest way is to have a zombie chase you to a ladder. Every time you get near the ladder zombie will hit you. Other way is to enter a building while zombie chases you and go upstairs. Then shoot your gun so it keeps aggroing until you manage to walk around directly above zombie and it will start hitting you.
