Skinning cows, I wanted to take their hides to maybe try and build a backpack out of them.
I was amazed to find cow pelts take up 3x5 item slots!

I mean - having skinned sheep, boars and deer in real life I know a raw hide does come a bit bulky. But they can still be folded and packed pretty easily.

A total of 15 (!) Item slots just to carry a single hide seems an awful lot.
