while you have the AKM (with drum mag) in Hands, you get the option to reload your magnum with Speedloader (see on screenshot: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/598164652131864578/8BC36915F7FF33FF886700CBE1497F52EE0B648F/)
AND in my case, after i clicked reload, he offered the option to reload my magnum also with normal ammo.

I think i had the magnum in hands, then crafted a split to heal my broken leg, healed it, then changed to AKM with drum mag on it.
