Game freeze if ESET Smart Security 6 firewall is enabled.
New, WishlistPublic

Description

Any time I forget to disable the ESET firewall before launching the game I will run into a pretty brutal game crash. Options menu will work fine, but if pressing play or change server the game instantly freeze and can not even be closed down ending the process via Windows task manager, requiring a reboot of the computer to turn it off.
I have Dayz.exe as an exception in the firewall, allowing both download and uploading data but apparently with little success.

sounds like a problem with eset because dayz is legit and works without it. DayZ is just doing its thing and the firewall is the one screwing around. Be sure to report it to eset.

Obviously the firewall is not allowing access properly. But the point of this bug report is that DayZ in this instance freezes in a way that not even stopping the process works to shut it down completely as it occurs. So there is definitely an issue related to the game stability when dealing with a firewall.

I have reported this bug and the team has noticed it. I got the same thing as soon as I updated my DayZ to 0.42. Can't play the game at all.

Also the firewall isn't the problem. I have F-Secures anti-virus and the same freeze happens when I turn the firewall on or off.

I guess there are several ways to reproduce the freeze, in my case it is most definitely tied to the firewall since I get it 100% of the times I forget to manually switch it off before running the game, and never had it occur when I remember to do so.
Had the same issue before 0.42 as well, so the update didn't affect it in any way on my side. Other than this problem, the game runs smoothly as long as the firewall is switched off and I have a lot less lag and bug issues than the friends I play with in general.

I had a problem like this with Punkbuster and Bitdefender. As soon as I joined a PB server my computer locked up. Couldn't put it on the allow list or anything.

make a post on ESET forums and post the link here too. Lets see what they have to say about this.

Perhaps this is something like windows defender deleting certain game/software cracks without giving you an option to keep them or allow them. Or windows firewall saying it has temporarily blocked a game when you first open it when in reality it hasn't blocked shit because you've peen playing multiplayer for the past 4 hours.
