I was healthy and got killed by a zombie in one hit. I spawned near my corpse, ran back and looted it. All my gear was intact, except for my hat and glasses that were ruined. It would appear that the zombie hit me in the head and killed me instantly. Is this working as intended?

Saw this happen to my buddy last night, same exact scenario. What's hilarious is that I have seen it reported a few times now and the more I think about it, the more it changes everything about this game.
I've been watching people outrun and outwit zombies for the last month of this game, and now it seems everyone is surprised, including myself, that zombies are actually a threat in the post apocalypse!
I hope this is not a bug, it really impacts gameplay as people with guns will actually have more of a threat to deal with (and may have to actually start shooting zombies) then those who are still trying to get to that level of loot.
