update doesn't fix anything... LOL unless it's the servers not yet updated but they seems to be. Just tried my favorites.

HEY!! 177 MB update this morning: This update was released to Stable as a critical update outside of our scheduled maintenance period. This was because of a serious issue with the connection logic that could trap some players in the "dead" state. There was also a critical bug with looting other players inventory. These have been fixed.

Too bad. I hoped this would work for everyone. I haven't died since I started my new character. A report of what happened after my eventual death will be posted here.

That workaround didn't work for me.

I was playing on a regular server, I was in an airfield with a bandit near me, i stood up, and half a second later had a "You are Dead" screen, without having heard any shot of the like.

This was on the 5th of February. The respawn button is grayed out. I can play on different hives, but not the hive that I died on.

deleting the file didn't worked for me the second time I died... It was on the same server though... So your solution it's not always working but it worked.

I moved the "xxx.vars.DayZProfile" file to another place because I didnt want to delete it right away. The file is located at "C:\Users\xxx\Documents\DayZ" on Windows 7. "xxx" stands for your username.

It actually worked. I started the game after that and I spawned as if nothing ever happened. It's a workaround at the very least.

I am having the same problem. I got to play the game one time and now all I get is the you are dead screen on every server.
