Found a green spraypaint can, dragged it over my mosin and let go of the mouse. A menu popped up with the options add spraypaint to mosin, paint mosin, and close.

I clicked the add one just to see what would happen, a message appeared saying that I painted the mosin but it disappeared from my hands, wasn't on my back, and wasn't on the ground.
