Right click on ANY item in inventory says RECEIVING
New, WishlistPublic

Description

I cannot interact with any item in my inventory whether it be loading a mosin or drinking from a canteen. Because of this I cannot load shotguns, mosins or revolvers. I can however if they have speed loaders because I can then just press the reload key without having to drag and drop the ammo in my inventory. I cannot open cans with can openers in my inventory or drink soda, I have to place them on the floor and then with the can opener in my hands, open them that way. I right click on the item and the word RECEIVING pops up very quickly and then disappears.

Agree network algorithms need fine tuning between server and player. dropping/dragging/inspecting items etc need speeding up. Generally this sounds like server side issues though.

The dropping items issue needs resolving ASAP. You can wait upto 1 minute fir items to appear on the floor in the vicinity.

Thanks for your help anyway, man. I still really appreciate it.

Oh, I totally over read this thing with your ability to enter other players' inventory, sorry.

What I read sounds very strange to me, though I have encountered other rather "uncommon" problem which kind of end up with similar results like yours. Even though I have a 100 MB/s connection right now, I'm having horrible lags when I play with other people since my laptop (issue No. 1) is from 2008 (issue No. 2) and has an AMD CPU and GPU (issue No. 3), so the game is barely playable on lowest graphics settings.

Firstly, the other day, when I was playing with 5 other people, my CPU just couldn't manage it, because it has to render my actions and the actions of those other 5 players. The result was constant heavy desynch and lags of mostly 2+ minutes, which also effected the inventory actions of course. All in all it was simply unplayable.

And secondly, I also tried to play on an australian server while I live in central Europe. The ping was somewhere at 360, which is relatively much, but I did not consider this an issue. But when I played, it didn't take long until the delay of actions was unacceptable, probably because the information could not flow to the server as quickly as it was generated.

Having said that, this still does not explain, why this only happens to your own inventory and not another one which you access. So I'm sorry, if this does not help you very much. But I hope it'll give some input to others, having similar problems like you (and me), so they hopefully can sort some things out.

Regards,
Johnny

Thanks for your input friend I really appreciate it but I have 40mb fiber optic connection I haven't had any problems opening doors or any of the similar problems you listed. And like I said in my additional note, it works perfectly fine when accessing a dead players inventory.

Thanks again for your help.

It says "Receiving...", because basically everything in this game is server side. This means when you interact with anything in your inventory or the environment, the client basically tells the server "I want to do this" or "I did this - Result, please" and waits for the server to respond something like "Ok, you may do this" or "You did this, so I give you that". Even when you just want to open a can of food and right click it for that, the client (basically) sends this particular action to the server and waits for an answer.

The problem with this is that when you have a bad internet connection or your client lags for some reason, the request to the server or the response from it may take its time. In those situations, you may encounter situations where a door does not open, or your character is not drinking the soda or you want to open your can, but it just says "Receiving...".

I've encountered a lot situations like this when I tried to play with a UMTS connection. It was pretty much unplayable, because everything took ages to happen.

Johnny

On another note I discovered the other day that when I access dead player's inventory I can use it fine, but only then.

problem resolved. rebound inventory key and had to hold it, changed back to TAB and worked fine.
