You can drag the ammo out of the magnum revolver into any item slot (unlike with the Mosin).
This does not unload the revolver, it only moves the icon around and takes up a slot in your inventory then.
If you right-click on the new ammo-icon (which by the way has no count to it) you get the "eject" option as if it was still in the revolver
