I have noticed that when you go into some houses there are doors down stairs. In which if stairs go over that door you can open that door from upstairs. Walk upstairs, which goes above the door, you will see the "open" or "close" icon. It seems the "hit boxes" or the collision detection for objects seems to be off or set to big around it.
