Walls, stairs, fences, buildings, and other barriers do not stop the zombies. When running from zombies the players have to move around these obstacles where the zombies can just go straight at you. You are not safe in the houses, in fact you are in an even more dangerous situation because you are trapped in a house while zombies can still come form any direction and come through the walls.
