The Long Range Scope is supposed to be able to go from 200m to 800m manually adjustable via PgUp and PgDown on the keyboard. When attached to the Mosin (correct rifle) and scoped in, you cannot zoom. You can see the range meter, or the range number in the upper right corner, but it isn't zooming in. This feature being fixed could extremely be helpful.

I'm guessing that zooming is something they have yet to implement, but I can confirm this is not working for me either.
"Rifle scope with variable zoom. Factory default zeroed to 200m and manually adjustable to 800m.(Not attachable on the m4a1)" - Taken from http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Long_Range_Scope
This means at default the centre of the crosshairs is where the bullet will hit at 200m. When you use PGUP to increase the zeroing, it just means that the centre of the crosshairs is the bullet impact point at the set range; not the zoom on the scope.
Working as intended, in my opinion.
Metal ice is correct. The scope doesn't increase it's zoom magnification. But the 'zeroing' of the rifle sights can be adjusted between 200m and 800m. Not a bug.
press numpad + to zoom in
press numpad - to zoom out
Zeroing is accomplished using the knobs typically on the top of the middle and the side of the middle of the scope, and have NOTHING to do with zooming.
