When I launch the game via steam, it goes as a background process, then closes after 10 seconds. I know it's not a settings issue, I've deleted my dayz.cfg multiple times. I've reinstalled the game. If I launch the game via the .exe in the games directory, it says "unable to locate an instance of steam" even though I've got it running.

Can't tell you the version because the game doesn't launch to let me see.

Please let us know in note section if you are still able to reproduce this issue in latest Development build.
If so, please send us dxdiag and files from this folder: "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\"
Can you pack the files in winrar and upload it somewhere?
