I know no one would normally do that, but hey we're trying to survive here.
i would just take my axe and destroy that can!! Or I could just slam it to the ground a couple of times to break it. Maybe its not that safe, but at this point, just add forks and knife and make them the only way to eat?
What do you think?

btw: in the latest patch you can open can's with sharp objects, knifes etc.. but you will spill some of the food.
Works in Rev. 0.29.113822 (your game version). Just take the can in your hand and open it.
Better use a knife: less spilled, axe stays sharp.
Hi,
sharp items like axes, knifes and such can be used to open cans. The chance is high though that something will be spilled when opening the can, hence less to eat. With a can opener, you will always get 100% of what's in the can and nothing will ever be spilled.
