I can confirm this.
Happened to me after I looted a dead body of his backpack and the pistol.
It's on the ground not only in inventory, but on the model aswell.
After a few seconds (or maybe after doing something... can't tell) it jumps to it designated location.

The same thing happens with other clothing, such as shirts.
Usually I just either wait or un-equip and re-equip and it fixes itself.
