I dropped a knife in a room with a static chair that was on its side. The knife graphic ended up clipping under the chairs leg and was unlootable. I did the same with my flashlight in an entryway by dropping it on a shoe shelf. It became unlootable.
I also stumbled on a player that had passed out/died with half her body in the house and half her body clipping through the wall to the outside. She was unlootable.

I had this happen to me as well.
Usually it happens if you are on second floor, then the things you drop might clip through the floor landing on first floor.
I lost an Ammo box because i wanted to check how full it was, and that can't be done in inventory, so had to place it in vicinity. I lost it as soon as i dropped it. I was laying under a tree, and everything i tried to drop disappeared.

I've just had a similar experience, I had a lot of ammo in an ammo box, placed it on the ground while I was near bushes and it became un-lootable. I could not stand atop of the item which I figured was due to the ammo box being inside something static
