Splitting a stack of ruined rounds will make half pristine ammo and half ruined ammo (I have tried with 5.56, 9mm and the Mosin ammo, 7.##). This process can be repeated until you have only 1 ruined bullet and the rest are pristine.

(This was attempted after finding everything ruined when executing someone with a single shot to the back of the head).
