Many many times the zeds move over the walls. They saw you, you run in a building, and then he stands near you, sometimes inside the wall. But not only house walls, simple walls too. And once i was on the 2nd floor of a school, zed come upstairs, and fell over the stairs back to basefloor.

I don't really know, but it usually happens when a zed see you, and you run into a house - and the shortest way is over the wall.
