When you drag a weapon from the Vicinity box, straight to the hotbar, the sprite goes all white and nothing you do seems to activate the weapon/

- Drag from the vicinty box straight to the hotbar

I think this is because the weapon isn't actually in your inventory. If you have something on the hotbar and it works, throw the item away and it becomes white. Move it to inventory first?

All the hotbar is is a shortcut to use an item that you have on your person.
If the item is not on your person you cannot switch to it, this is not a bug and is fully intended.
