joining servers, i go to join a server and it will iniciate but wont allow me any further then the black bakground.

Description

I have tried to join a few different servers, and am not able to. I have used mods and no mods. when the last patch came out I was recommended to not download the new patch because it made Exile crash. so I was told to down load legacy build 1.52. I did so and now I am unable to join any servers.
