Steam Workshop Mods are downloaded but not copied over to Arma 3 folder.
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

Hey there,

Since sometime in October, new Mods subscribed via the Steam Workshop don't show up in the Arma 3 launcher and the game itself. Steam downloads them without issue to the ...Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\107410 folder. But they are not copied over to the Arma 3 folder where all mods are being stored by default. Obviously the launcher can't see them there.

Is that an issue with steam or the launcher? What is responsible for copying the mods over? Does steam push or does the Arma 3 launcher pull the mods, so to speak?

I have tried a good deal to no avail. Checked Arma 3's integrity cache, switched between dev branch and normal version. Cleared my Workshop mod list from all deprecated mods that i was still subscribed to. Unsubscribed and resubscribed to a bunch of mods. Switched the folder location forth and back. Anything short of reinstalling steam and Arma 3.

I hoped that the issue would resolve itself with the next update, but its still in full swing after patch 1.54.

Thx for the help. {F27489} {F27490} {F27491} {F27492} {F27493}

Hello,
Steam client downloads the mods and it sends information to Launcher. There are two separate pieces of information (list of the subscribed mods and their status, e.g. it's installed, it's being downloaded) but Launcher didn't received any of them (for at least a month, according to the logs)

Similar issue was reported a few days ago and if I'm not mistaken it was solved by switching to development branch, updating and then switching back to stable branch.

Thx for your reply. Problem still persists, even after a full unistall of arma 3 and the steam client itself. I have uninstalled both and wiped any leftover folders of steam, arma 3 and bohemia (in appdata for instance) and did a fresh install of the steam client on my ssd and arma 3 itself. Again all workshops mods were downloaded to the ....steamapps\workshop\content\107410 folder. But as before, the mods are not being copied over to the arma 3 root folder, hence the launcher can't see them there.

I am totally bewildered how this issue can still persist, ever after such drastic measures. To make absolutely sure, i did as advised in the other ticket you mentioned and switched to steam client beta and back again, and to arma 3 dev branch and back to normal version (both after i did the reinstalling).

Sidenote: The workshop works fine with Skyrim for instance. If i subscribe to a mod from the Skyrim Workshop, it copies the mod over to skyrim data folder when i launch the game. So its really somehow arma 3 related.

I attach the new launcher logs from my new installation. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello,
unfortunately logs doesn't contain any new information. But it is possible enable additional logs for Steam communication by editing the file "(arma 3 folder)\Launcher\logger.xml":
There are 4 loggers related to the Steam in that file
...

<logger name="SteamApi">
  <level value="ERROR" />
  <appender-ref ref="SteamFile" />
</logger>
<logger name="SteamLayer" additive="False">
  <level value="ERROR" />
  <appender-ref ref="SteamFile" />
</logger>
<logger name="SteamAPIWrap">
  <level value="OFF" />
</logger>
<logger name="SteamAPIWrapDump">
  <level value="OFF" />
</logger>

...
and to enable additional information to be logger, you have to change the level setting to ALL for each of them:

  <level value="ALL" />

But by enabling this option Launcher will generate a huge amount of logs so I'd advise you don't leave it enabled for too long.

Right mate,

i have set all 4 lines to "ALL" in the logger as you described, and started the launcher a couple of times. New logs are uploaded. Sorry to make you go through them all.

I want to add that scenario subscriptions work as intended. Is there a difference in the way steam and the arma 3 launcher handle mods and scenarios?

In the "arma3launcher.rpt" log there is the following line:

"SteamAppsWrap [SteamLayerWrap.SteamAppsWrap.GetCurrentBetaName:0] Cannot retrieve current steam branch name"

Does this relate to my issue?

I hope these new logs reveal something new.

Hello,
we're going through the logs and at this moment we're trying to find out what is not in there. The only Workshop items that appeared in the new logs are scenarios, but there are no mod for some reason.

The message "Cannot retrieve current steam branch name" only means what is says - you have selected the main (default) game branch which doesn't have the name, so that is completely normal.

Hey there,
I have tested the issue on a second PC with the same strange behaviour happening. It really seems to be an issue with my steam account and not any specific arma 3/windows installation.

I will lock in with my brothers steam account later today and see whether his account handles things properly.

Hello,
could you please upload logs from Steam? It's possible that it contains some clues. They are stored in Logs folder in Steam installation directory (by default it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs).

Hello,
i have uploaded the steam logs as requested. I will let u know when i have tested my brothers steam account. Thx for your hard work, it is really appreciated. Its almost impossible to know what to look for in those logs myself.

Could you please run try to get the live information directly from Steam? If you exit the Steam and the start it again with -console parameter, there should be a new 'tab' CONSOLE on the top (in the row with STORE, LIBRARY, COMMUNITY, YOUR NICK). If you go to that tab and at the bottom enter this command:
workshop_status 107410
it should print out the status as is currently perceived by the Steam client. It would help us if you could copy it into text file and upload it.

Logs are uploaded.

I finally could log in with my brothers steam account and the arma 3 mods he has subscribed on the workshop were downloaded and properly copied over by the launcher to my arma 3 root folder.

So something must be wrong with my steam account then.

Hello,
may I ask you to run the Steam with the console enabled once again?

  • Log under your account.
  • Enable logs by running the command in Steam console: log_ipc 1
  • Start Launcher and let it run for a minute.
  • Disable the logs: log_ipc 0
  • Upload the ipc_SteamClient.log and workshop_log.txt file, or preferably the whole Steam logs folder if possible.

I'd also like to ask your for the permission to send the Steam logs to Valve engineers to see if they can provide any explanation.

Hey,
i have compiled a new set of logs with the log_ipc 1 command as you advised.

I have noticed one thing in the workshop_log.txt. I still seem to be subscribed to 3 mods that have been deleted from the workshop:

[2015-12-07 11:55:22] [AppID 107410] Detected workshop change : added subscribed item 321739298

[2015-12-07 11:55:57] [AppID 107410] Detected workshop change : removing unknown item 321739298

I have tried to find out which 3 mods are the culprits, but when i look for them in my browser with the app id, e.g 241867902, 246184547, 321739298, i come across the error message stating the mod/item has been deleted from the workshop. There is no way for me to find out what the real name of that item has been before it was deleted from the workshop.

For instance:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=321739298

I don't know whether this pertains to my problem at all, but its weird i think.

And yes, you may send these logs to Valve. And thx again for the help.

Hello,
thank you. I also noticed these three items, but unfortunately I can't determine whether it is a cause or a consequence of your issue.

I will keep you updated on our investigation.

Hey,
any news concerning my issue? Did you relay the logs to Valve, did they make any statemet as to what might be the problem?

I would just like to know whether Valve is already aware of the issue. If not, i contact them myself. Please advise on how to proceed. Thx.

Hi,

Is there any further news on this issue? I have just had it begin to do it recently on my main desktop PC (including after a full format and reinstall of Windows and re-download of ARMA3) but my laptop has not had the issue using the same account.
