So I have a pair of Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 surround sound headphones.
On these headphones, when 5.1 surround is active, the bass is just WAY TOO MUCH.
When they're on stereo, the bass is normal.

The headphones are fine. Only ArmA has this problem, no other games and software & editing suites.

"Surround sound headphones" - Go out and buy a decent 2 channel headphones with a good sound stage and come back because they will emulate a better "surround soundstage" then those headphones ever will
Surround sound headphones have excessive bass and are a marketing gimmick. Trust me, make the switch. Get Audio Technicas AD700's or even the Sennheiser HD598.
P.S. make sure you get open ear cup design if you want the best soundstage possible. The only con to open cup design is that you can hear the environment around you, so unless you live in a loud household, get any open design.
