Static heavy weapons do not return fire at infantry at longer ranges (edited: Expand to all vehicle-based AI please)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Static heavy weapons manned by AI do not fire upon targets at large distances. Even when fired upon by those units. The attacking AI (just infantry) will spot the static defences at a longer range and shoot the gunner, without getting returning fire. Despite the static weapons having all sort of visual enhancement scopes.

In short: AI with optical aids for target spotting and aquisition are actually far worse at spotting and identifying targets than AI without these aids. Even when the enemy passes directly in front of these optic devices.

Steps To Reproduce

Place a static .50 or grenade launcher and a group of enemy AI infantry, both sides facing each other.
Make the AI infantry approach the static and they will shoot the gunner without getting fired upon. (even placing alot of static weapons so they have plenty of time to return fire doesn't solve it).

Additional Information

Tested this only on longer view distance settings so far. (2km or more).

EDIT:

After testing some more I believe this issue should be expanded to all AI inside a vehicle as well. Although the static weapon AI is the most obvious problem as they should have the normal infantry spotting ability in addition to their visual aids for spotting.

Other vehicle-based AI has the same problem. While the situational awareness in most vehicles would probably be dimished by numerous factors, they should have very good spotting abilities in the direction their optics are pointing. At this moment the technical aids for vehicle based AI seem to be ignored and only their reduced situational awareness is accounted for. The overal result means that infantry is to powerful against vehicles (and statics) at longer ranges.

Any news concerning a fix for this issue? Have not seen anything related to this in the various development threads so far while its status is assigned here.

This definitely needs some attention.
You can play as a blufor marksman and fire a few rounds at an OPFOR static HMG raised facing away from you at 300m distance.
It takes up to 20 rounds in broad daylight, standing upright without concealment for the AI to return fire.
