Arma's LOD system is terrible
New, WishlistPublic

When you got a sudden fps drop (u enter a village or something) that because arma's lod system is terrible , why ? Cause if you gonna put everything higher that (settings) you have now is going to decrease you fps but in the same time if you gonna enter a village it won't give you such huge fps drop.

Yes, the LOD system is horrible and the engine is horrible! It makes no sense that it would decrease performance when you use higher settings!

The floating rocks are a good example of the problems with the LOD system, but it is more a case of it being overly agressive, and thus causing issues like very noticeable pop-up.

Install Arma 3 on a SSD, this will reduce the FPS drops significantly. It appears that the engine (re)loads a lot of textures and models.
