Death Animations dont always work according to the laws of physics
New, WishlistPublic

Description

I fired at several soldiers some were running some were standing
they way they fell to the ground made it feel like someone else hit them

for instance:
a soldier was standing in from of me in a combat stance i fired at his center mass and he fell slowly forward
two things are wrong here:

when struck by a bullet from the front you will always be pushed in the other direction ( no always directly back but definitely no forward)

when hit by a very hard impact from 30 -40 meters away there is no way you are going to fall slowly to the ground , i saw a someone get shot before and it will throw you back as if you where hit by a horse

Steps To Reproduce

place an enemy soldier
Fire on him from the front
1 out of a every few kills you will see a soldier fall in the wrong direction

Additional Information

it happens a lot when im not expecting it
but i try to reproduce it ,it happens a lot less

Hmm... you are talking about laws of physics.

We all know, that the ragdoll in Arma 3 is far from being perfect.

If someone gets hit by a bullet, the momentum of the bullet wouldn't be enough to throw him/her backwards. Even if he/she gets hit by a hailstorm of bullets (shotgun fire), the body only will collapse. I am talking about a standing person.

If the person, who gets shot, will be thrown back as if he/she gets hit by a horse, the shooter has to get thrown back too, according to Newton’s Third Law.
That's the typical myth in movies (f.e. Last Man Standing).

In which direction the body falls, depends on the center of mass, not the momentum of the bullet.

ahh I knew im going to get some flak for this

obviously I used the "horse" example as an exaggeration

as far as Center of mass , I forgot to mention it and thanks for that

I fire at the soldier's center mass not the head

therefore the entire center of mass is pushed backwards , add to that the fact the soldiers are wearing "Bullet resistant" jackets which should spread the impact area on a larger part of the center of mass
and the guy is at least supposed to be pushed lightly backwards

you would at least agree that he shouldn't fall directly forward ?

unless a much stronger force is being applied to him from the back to make him fall forward

which isn't the case

Welcome to BIS games. Physics sucks.

But these are not animations, they are using ragdolls for the characters, and yes, many people think they are too heavy.

Someone here learns physics from Holywood movies lol

@KillZone
a. read my comment
b.
someone here plays computer games and hasn't seen a real live fire fight where someone got shot in the chest and fell back on their asses (thankfully the Carrier plate stopped the bullet)

until you do ,keep your thoughts to yourself
and the physics here are nothing like real life

p.s
when you fire an old AK47 it kicks you in the shoulder
the same amount of force should be applied to the receiver hence bam you fall on your ass if the impact is mostly stopped by your carrier plate

Actually you recieve a bigger force, because if you were right, bullets wouldn't kill, or recoil would pretty much fuck up your shoulder.

I fired ak47 which is 7.62 and i fired ak74 which is 5.45. The latter has much less recoil, definitely not enough to cause one go off balance. Pluss there is this thing in physics that cause bullet to lose momentum because of friction, so kinetic energy, and yes this is what affect target physically is getting smaller with distance, so you cannot just compare the initial shot blowback and bullet impact one to one. As I said Holywood science.

Oh and i forgot, you are talking about death so means bullet penetrated the vest, which means it still has a lot of kinetic energy left. Like knife through butter.

@ Dr_Death while I like you support better physics your last statement is inaccurate
the bullet's energy decays throughout its flight or it would continue onwards forever

therefore it cant be stronger ,it can only be very close to the same impact you received
which is still considerable when hit directly in the chest (Even with a carrier plate)

@ killzone I got shot in the chest by a 9mm trust me that thing hurts
a larger caliber rifle round would have pushed me way back ( like what happened to my friend)

even if the plate takes some of the force and pushes you back , it doesn't mean the bullet wont penetrate the plate and hurt or kill you
it just reduces the chance of the hit being fatal

and when I say push you back
I don't mean sending you flying 10 meters like in the movies but it WILL push you back

and if it actually hurt you and you fall ,you will not fall forwards from a completely stationary position

might even brake one of your ribs

Shade, what i mean is that you stated
"the same amount of force should be applied to the receiver hence bam you fall on your ass if the impact is mostly stopped by your carrier plate"

like if the force in the recoil is the same one from the bullet flying, hence my comment.
